Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, has died after the Lamborghini they were travelling is crashed in Spain at the age of 28, his club and the Portuguese Football Federation have confirmed.
The incident happened on Wednesday evening near the town of Cernadilla in the province of Zamora A-52 road, north-western Spain at 00:30 local time on Thursday. As per the Spanish authorities report, the vehicle lost control after a tyre blowout while overtaking another vehicle. Emergency services arrived at the scene, but both men were dead.
Jota had returned to Spain briefly following his recent wedding in Portugal, which took place just over a week ago.

Liverpool said the club was “devastated” by the news and expressed condolences to Jota’s family, describing him as “a beloved teammate and an outstanding professional who brought joy and determination to everything he did.”
Manager Arne Slot said with his deep heart that “Diogo was more than a footballer. He was a kind, dedicated person who earned the respect of everyone he worked with.”
In Portugal, the Football Federation said in a statement “lost one of its brightest talents,” while national team head coach Roberto Martínez said Jota’s impact “went far beyond the pitch.”
The Portugal Prime Minister Luís Montenegro said, the news has “shocked the country” and declared a minute’s silence at all national sporting events over the weekend.

Diogo Jota was born in Porto in 1996, began his professional career with Paços de Ferreira and after that played for Atlético Madrid, FC Porto (on loan), and Wolves where he scored 44 goals in 131 games before joining Liverpool in 2020.
After joining Liverpool – He quickly established himself as a key part of the team and scored 65 goals in 185 appearances. Jota helped the club to win the Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup during the 2024-25 season.
For Portugal, he netted 14 goals in 49 internationals and won the UEFA Nations League in 2019 against the Netherlands and in 2025 against Spain. He won three major trophies with the Reds (Liverpool) and two Nations League titles with Portugal.
